Beginning in the fall of 2008 the idea to develop the small parcel of property on the ocean side of the church was presented to Pastoral Council. By this time we had an artistic rendering and a proposed budget. The Pastoral Council approved the plan and recommended that the Pastor provide seed money. The parish return on investment was planned to come from offerings requested for the engraved bricks, statuary, and benches.
Ground-breaking commenced in spring 2009. The flag stone was laid the following month to frame the garden and engraved bricks. By July, 2009 the bricks were laid and benches installed. So far 183 bricks are engraved and the number contines to increase. In the spring of 2010 another 55 bricks will be engraved in place. Bricks will continue to be available for engraving for anniversaries, baptisms, first communions, memorials, and any special occasion to be commemorated.
The Memorial Garden Committee is most appreciative of the heartfelt enthusiasm shown by the parishioners as well as the time and talent contributed to this Garden. You are invited to step into this serene environment, let St. Francis greet you, and feel the warmth of Mary’s open arms as you contemplate the beauty which God has bestowed on us.
