OLGC purchased the building that is now known in Folly Beach as Father Kelly Parish Hall in August 1995. The building at 105 West Hudson Avenue was a 4-bay cement block garage, with dirt floors and a corrugated metal roof. Under the direction of parishioner Jim Steffel, many gifted volunteers, craftsmen and contractors transformed the building into a facility with a large kitchen, and made it available to serve a wide variety of parish and local civic needs. In a remarkable feat of teamwork, the renovation was completed in five months. The Parish Pastoral Council held the first meeting in the new Parish Hall in January 1996. Bishop David B. Thompson conducted the official dedication of the Parish Hall on October 4, 1997. After the passing of Monsignor Robert F. Kelly in 2004, the parish named the Hall “Father Kelly Parish Hall” in 2004.
Since 1996, the parish hall has served its mission as a place to bring people together so they may be strengthened to serve others. The hall is used for regular children’s catechesis, RCIA, and adult faith formation meetings for parish council and other parish organizations. The Men’s Club also serves monthly breakfasts and holds various fund raising events. In addition, The Women’s Guild hosts a number of parish events including dinners, fashion shows, and holiday parties. Whether parishioners are putting together Easter baskets for the infirmed, making floral arrangements for the church, or sharing a light meal on Lenten Soup nights, activity at the hall provides opportunities for fellowship and support.
Individuals or groups may contract to rent the parish hall for private parties and events. Renters must agree to abide by the Father Robert Kelly Parish Hall Rental Policy. The hall will accommodate up to 120 people for a sit-down dinner and must be cleaned by the renter. The renter must also provide, at their own cost, any necessary permits or licenses and must vacate as agreed; and no later than midnight. Smoking is not permitted in the hall and the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on the premises.
Father Robert Kelly Parish Hall Rental Policy Fees: A non-refundable flat fee is charged for each date. The fee includes an insurance bond of $120.00. In addition, a security deposit of $200 is required. The security deposit will be refunded provided there is no damage to the hall or its property, subject to all other terms of the agreement. Fees will be refunded for canceled events on a pro-rated basis determined by the date of written notification.
